Tonight! Tonight!

Come listen to Dummy's favourite records, have a beer and say hi.

Charlie and me will be representin' (oh okay, playing records) tonight at The Legion, Old Street from 9pm for new night Record Shop. FREE.

I am very excited about playing Hudson Mohawke, Egyptian Hip Hop and TLC. Oh yes.

The Legion's myspace

Freekly is ruining my life

One of the best distractions I've come across recently is this site called Freekly, which sends you three classic pieces of music journalism a week, based on your personal itunes collection, via excellent subscriber site Rocksbackpages. So, amazing pieces on Arthur Russell, Nas and Nick Cave have basically ruined my morning's work.

The Warehouse Project 2009: line ups announced.

Manchester's Warehouse Project announce their 12 week stint with nights curated by Friendly Fires, Erol Alkan, Eat Your Own Ears and more.

We like Fridays...

...especially when we can be assured of some pre-Field Day summery sounds with our favourite pastel wearing popstars Mystery Jets.

They'll be playing records with Durrr's The Lovely Jonjo at the Legion this Friday. Like, tomorrow. AND it's free before 11pm.

Ooo Field Day...can't wait. In fact, might just spend the rest of the day gazing at the lineup... http://www.fielddayfestivals.com/lineup/

Radio Disney at Catch

We meant to post this a few days ago, but, as it has been said before and doubtlessly will be said again, we are puddles. Anyway, one of our favourite mixmasters, Robin Carolan, plays the FINAL So Bones FOR A WHILE (in London), because dude is moving to New York. It's an excellent night of weirdo R+B and ghostly crunk. We'll miss you! Details below:

Catch, tonight, free

45:33 remixed

45:33, James Murphy's release with Nike and my personal favourite LCD Soundsystem LP is being remixed, with 12"s released through the summer, then compiled on a full-length in the Autumn. The tracks are:

Runaway Remix
Prince Language Remix
Prins Thomas Diskomiks Remix
Theo Parrish’s Space Cadet Remix
Trus’ Me Remix
Padded Cell Remix
Pilooski Remix
Riley Reinhold Remix

No real surprises or curveballs, but the Riley Reinhold or Theo Parrish one should be pretty interesting, and Prince Language has been doing some consistently amazing work on DFA, so we're still unbelievably excited about this. The follow up to Sound Of Silver should be out early 2010, by which time even more people will have crowned James Murphy man of the decade.

Beastie Boys' Adam Yauch Makes Cancer Announcement via YouTube

Atlas Sound – Walkabout

Atlas Sound, the amazing star of such delightfully fuzzy projects as Let The Blind Lead Those Who Can See But Cannot Feel, and (as alter-ego Brandon Cox) the band Deerhunter, has a new album on the way, and it's called Logos. Apparently, it's more of a "pop direction", as this MP3, Walkabout ft Panda Bear of Animal Collective, attests: http://static.4ad.com/audio/atlassound/walkabout.mp3

Young Turks party this Friday

We like Young Turks and we like free parties. So this chance to catch some rather good young producers including Jamie from The xx doing their thing at the Lock Tavern this Friday gets a big fat 'recommended'.

I love how revealing the artwork for an album has become an integral part of an artist's digital promotion plan.

Micachu is very busy

Mika Levi and her shapes will be working on music with the London Sinfonietta early next year. In the meantime, she's (jesus) playing every festival around (inc Field Day on the first of August), working on a song for Concrete and Glass, touring in October and releasing another single.

Amazing music documentary

Can you imagine anyone making a film called Datarock saved my life?

Envelopes play rare London show + Secret Garden Festival

One of our favourite Swedish bands, Envelopes, play a show at Barden's Boudoir on 25th July. If you haven't seen them before you should come, they're amazing, and they're probably going to play some new stuff. I can't wait. Oh, and before I forget...Good Shoes are DJing too...

Listen back to Erol Alkan's first BBC6 show

If they were a font, they'd rip the page

Ohio shitgazers Times New Viking release second album, Born Again Revisited, in September. If you were worried that the sound quality would be any less shoddy that that of debut, Rip It Off, fear not – the album was delivered from VHS tapes.

Here's a link to an MP3, No Time No Hope
. Artwork below.

Monthly Big Pink Round Up

The Big Pink, easily the best Badseed-free band we saw at Glastonbury, have announced tour and release dates.

Exxxcellent single Dominoes will be out in September, followed very quickly by an album called A Short History Of Love.

Robbie and Milo will be wrapping themselves in icy coils of dry ice like near future warlocks to promote these, check their myspace for dates.

A fairly daft video directed by Tim Saccenti is below.

The Fucking Champs

One of our favourite nights returns to the Corsica Studios tomorrow night. It's called the International Amalgamation of Champions (part 17), and it features people like Zomby (whose Float is above), MJ Cole and Dummy fav So Bones, who did us a really good mix a bit ago.

It's like 1991 all over again...

Boicozine #6: Dummy / Select / Work / Relax / Good for Nothing from Michael Bojkowski on Vimeo.

This is pretty funny, and quite nice really. Back issues just added to the Dummy Shop. The mag will be back - watch this space.

Amazing Glastonbury pics!

A pal sent me this link today which helped blow away the post Glastonbury blues. They're the best Glastonbury photo's I think I've ever seen. Totally capture all aspects of the event. Check them here.

...Like Planet Earth itself

Blur's disco ball on the Pryamid Stage at the weekend reminded me of this amazing article from Frieze from a few months back, on the aesthetics of the disco ball.

Here

War

Crystal Fighters, Filthy Dukes, We Have Band and the Phenomenal Handclap Band are playing a gig for War Child in a converted church in Notting Hill on the 15th. It looks fun!

Brodinski in-store at Pure Groove this Friday

French DJ Brodinski will be playing records at Pure Groove in Farringdon this Friday evening and signing copies of his debut mix compilation Suck My Deck. He'll be there from 8pm til 10pm before going on to play Fabric round the corner later that night. We'll be down there joining him for a beer.

Oh crikey, poor Jens!

Jens Lekman has swine flu, but is still extremely poetic.

"I picked home one last souvenir from South America, it's called the H1N1 virus. Wrongfully known as the Swineflue.

I was crossing the Atlantic when things started getting really bad, the fever was hallucinogenic and shaking me like a leaf and I grabbed the sleeve of the Air France steward. "I'm not feeling well, I should see a doctor" I said and the reply came as a brilliant mix of death anxiety and french rudeness: "Uh, yes... Terminal D... go there maybe... when we land". After that the stewards and stewardesses took long detours. A ring of empty seats formed around me. Peoples eyes were kind but determined, they read "Poor you, I really wish you all the best but if you come near me or my kid I will have to stab you with this plastic fork". I got up and went to the bathroom where I fainted.

Now I'm in quarantine for ten days. I can see the summer through my window and it's just perfect. Summer is always best through a window.
"

[from his blog]

Poor guy. Get well soon Jens!
