Acyde, Big Pink (DJ) + Joy Orbison this Sat

Quite possibly the best club 'flyer' I've ever seen. Rather good line up too: Acyde, The Big Pink (DJ set) and Joy Orbison this Saturday at Badlands club. Nice.

New(ish) band of the day – Lawrence Arabia

This guy called Lawrence Arabia who sounds like the Magnetic Fields has been floating around floating around my radar for a year or so, and he's just signed to Bella Union, with 'Chants Darling', his UK debut, out soon. He's from New Zealand and apparently, Feist is his "biggest fan." He's good, listen to the video below!

Drums of Death – Got Yr Thing video

Various Greco Roman refugees become the made-up skull of Drums of Death. B+ song, C video.

Places to dance this weekend

Apparently it's about this time on a Monday that most people start planning the weekend. At least I think I read that somewhere, possibly made it up. Either way, there are lots of fun places to shake it down (yeah) this weekend. Here are three of 'em.

Boys Noize album launch @ Bugged Out

Cold Cave – November London dates

Unbelievably excellent electro band are playing some dates in November, around the release of the unbelievably excellent (and surprisingly anthemic) LP 'Love Comes Close' on 2nd. There'll be fawning on the main site around that time. Excellent song below, myspace in the title.

November 3rd – White Heat
4th – Barfly
7th – Proud Galleries

Video: Micachu & The Shapes 'Turn Me Well'

The video's nothing to shout about but the single's quite lovable in an awkward, Aphex kinda way. Out on 7" and digital download October 5th.

Then catch her/them on tour:

Wednesday 7th October – Nation of Shop keepers, Leeds
Thursday 8th October – Deaf Institute, Manchester
Friday 9th October – Captain’s Rest, Glasgow
Saturday 10th October – Sneaky Pete's, Edinburgh
Monday 12th October – Audio, Brighton
Tuesday 12th October – Arts Centre, Norwich
Wednesday 14th October – Fiddlers, Bristol
Thursday 15th October – Scala, London

One of the highlights of Bestival apparently. But the audience were on drugs and dressed as space-frogs so make of that what you will.

The Golden Filter - new single coming soon on Dummy Records...

thegoldenfilter.com

Set Your Sky+: Synth Britannia on BBC4

I don't know when this is on but with contributions from the likes of Philip Oakey, Vince Clarke, Martin Gore, Bernard Sumner, and Gary Numan it looks well worth watching.

Video: Fever Ray 'Seven'

Another beautiful and strange single and video from possibly the album of the year. The video is directed by Johan Renck and the single is out Oct 5th. A double disc edition of the album is being released on October 12th including a DVD featuring all the Fever Ray videos so far plus some previously unseen footage.

Fever Ray play their last UK date of 2009 at The HMV Forum, London on Dec 5th. Buy tickets here.

Major Notes – Holy Ghost

In another world, our shit is wrapped tight enough to run a "track of the day", everyday, on this blog. In this alternate universe, the above song is our track of day, today, a superlative piece of minimal, vaguely apocalyptic funky. Reminds me of both Hamas Rule by Shakleton, and, strangely, the video to California Love.
