Armand Van Helden @ The Coronet

This will be a good night. Armand Van Helden ruled UK nightlife in the late 90s. Course he hangs out with Dizzee and A-Trak these days, still making good music. Here's hoping he plays Flowerz for old time's sake though.

James Blake releases CMYK on R&S

James' early stuff on Hemlock/Hessle was fantastic, so it's with great pleasure I announce that his debut for R&S will be released on the 31st May. We can't play any tracks form it but it sees him translating his minimal dubstep into the most beautiful, future ready pop music I've heard in so, so long. Circle the date.

You may already know that you can hear your favourite record of the year at their website. You may not. Worth a listen.

Mount Kimbie + FaultyDL song to download, for free.

If I were the editor of the Sun (I'm not) I'd make Mount Kimbie lead story because

a) They are one of the most genuinely thrilling bands in the UK, adding post-rock, and provincial yearning and (whisper it) melodies the Housemartins would be proud of to the dubstep template.

b) It would give me a chance to use the headline "Peak Time!"

Good that.

Have a nice weekend!

Malcolm Mclaren on hip hop in 1984.

'Beat This! A Hip Hop History' tells the story of early hip hop, something that Malcolm Mclaren makes sound ineffably exciting, as he seemed to make everything – even boredom – sound. It's a greyer world without him, and our thoughts are with his family.
