Hudson Mohawke, Egyptian Hip Hop, Stopmakingme play our party

As announced on yesterday's mailout, Hudson Mohawke, superlative hip hop producer, has put together a live band, and we're having him play our first birthday party, along with excellent rock band Egyptian Hip Hop and smashing DJ Stopmakingme.

We're predictably massive fans of Hudson, whose elasticated, Technicolor productions upended both conventional hip hop and monochrome electronica, so we jumped at the chance to present his first London headline date as a live artist. We fell in love with Egyptian Hip Hop's melodic jams last Summer, so when we heard them say they were massive Hudson fans, we asked them to play, and they said yes. Dan Avery / Stopmakingme made our very first mix back in March '09 and has since taken on writing duties, on top of promoting Kill 'Em All and a steady stream of excellent remixes. We're really chuffed that he's coming down and playing his ever-excellent set of forward-thing but fun-time club music.

We're having it at the Macbeth on the 30th April, tickets are only £7. Don't want to sound cocky, but it's probably worth booking ahead for this one. Gigantic link is here

Friendly Fires/Holy Ghost update

Back in December Friendly Fires told us they'd hooked up with Holy Ghost to do a cover swap. (Read the interview.) And now they have. Hurrah! You can listen to the discolicious results on Pinglewood's ever-excellent site. Apparently the 12"s will be available soon.

Video: Syntaks 'Blue Sunshine'

This new video from Denmark's Syntaks stars Jakob Skott's partner and collaborator Anna Cecilia. Kinda 60s psychedelic in feel (not sound), it's sighingly lovely. A song for lovers.

Chemical Brothers announce Sonar slot and Roundhouse dates

The Chemical Brothers, dance music heroes, will be joining Air and LCD Soundsystem as Sonar headliners, as we reported here. They're one of our favourite dance acts (I believe Johnno and Paul have backed them since the Jockey Slut days), and though they seem to have dropped slightly of the radar in the last few years, the Sonar Saturday show should be seen as a coronation. They also put on a smashing live show.

Autoitalia screen Rock My Religion

Autoitalia, super-interesting South London art collective, are screening Dan Graham's 1983 film Rock My Religion at their premises. It's about Rock n Roll and sex and 19th century millenarist sects, and features interviews with Glenn Branca and Thurston Moore, I'm buying popcorn already. 4.30 at their premises on Sunday. So go go to their link.

Excerpt from the PR:

In Rock My Religion, Graham traces the history of popular music in America back to the 1950s, linking it with a 19th century Puritan sect, The Shakers. The bodies of the Puritan Shakers, reaching ecstasy in order to ‘overcome’ sexuality and to be closer to God, are juxtaposed with the shaking bodies of America’s pubescent teenagers, escaping their suburban prisons by immersing themselves in the sexually charged adoration of their pop idols – from Jerry Lee Lewis and Elvis to Jimmy Hendrix and Jim Morrison.
