New Yeasayer single for download

If you've been paying attention, you'll know that Dummy's All Seeing Eye digs Yeasayer. So, with no small excitement, we have spent the last few hours tripping out to their new single, _Ambling Alp_. On first (thirty) listens, it's less fizzy than most on 'All Hour Cymbals', but is a little more anthemic. The 12" is out in January, mixes come from Memory Tapes and DJ/rupture, which is the icing on the cake, really. Their second LP, Odd Blood is released the month after. You can download the single HERE.

Odd Blood track listing
1. The Children
2. Ambling Alp
3. Madder Red
4. I Remember
5. O.N.E.
6. Love Me Girl
7. Rome
8. Strange Reunions
9. Mondegreen
10. Grizelda

Cold Cave stream awesome album Love Comes Close

Click the link to be taken a SoundCloud stream of the album that everyone (with a music magazine) is talking about. I really like it because it reminds me of Soviet. Cold Cave are an "experimental" rock band formed by this guy called Wesley Eisold who was in some other bands (like Give Up The Ghost) before this one. They're on tour now, see below the video for dates.

Marina's new video + free MP3

Back in April, I fell hard and fast for Marina & The Diamonds' debut single 'Obsessions'. Read the Next piece here. Since then she's signed to 679, gigged all over and done a whole lot of blogging.

What I love about Marina, other than the fact she makes lush n quirky pop, is that she's unafraid to explore and question the unwritten rules of being a female popstar. Her recent blogs on Shakira's video for 'She Wolf' and Lady Gaga make for interesting and uncomfortable reading. Uncomfortable because we're all a whole heap of contradictions and she's brave enough to talk about them.

Anyway, it was a breath of fresh air to watch Marina's new video for forthcoming single 'Mowgli's Road'. It's awesome: creative, exciting, entertaining. She's got balls, that girl. Watch it below.

Plus, here's a free download of the Mille remix of Mowgli's Road. It's her favourite remix of any of her tracks ever, so we heard. We like it too.

Vinyl Factory come up trumps with Air package

Air's new return-to-form album Love 2 is being released as a high end package but Vinyl Factory, in a luxurious silver mirrored box, a gatefold, 200-gram, super-heavyweight 15-track double album with the songs from their new album especially mastered for vinyl. The records were pressed on the EMI 1400, and include three exclusive new Air songs, along with an exclusive art print and an exclusive eight-page booklet of large-scale photographs by Luciana Val and Franco Musso, which have been commissioned especially for this album. Which sounds awesome. Oh, it's £75. Which does beg the question "How much does anyone like Air?", but whatevs, it sounds nice.

Get it here thevinylfactory.com.

Yeasayer do new album, will dominate 2010.

Yeasayer are following up 2008's effervescent 'All Hour Cymbals' with their second album in February 2010. It's out on Secretly Canadian over there, and on Mute over here. Early viewings of new songs on youtube sound like all live rips, but given their sterling work on Bat For Lashes' 'Two Suns' and early reports, it should sound really, really good.

Tracklist:

01 The Children
02 Ambling Alp
03 Madder Red
04 I Remember
05 ONE
06 Love Me Girl
07 Rome
08 Strange Reunions

Free Energy London shows update...

Absolutely irrepressible DFA band Free Energy are playing a few shows this week. First heard these guys (produced by James Murphy) a while ago and only quite liked them, then tried to hate them, but the truth is that no band this year have made me wish I was shouting into the cold Oregon air out of the back window of fast-moving car. People have been beefing them, but they better forget that because these guys will not be stopped.

Clock Opera – Alouette

Me and Ruth checked out Clock Opera last week, and again we were blown away because they were both very good, and especially loved this song Alouette, until I just found out it there's another song called Alouette, which is about pulling the feathers out of a skylark, which seems really cruel. Their new single White Noise will be out on Puregroove in a few weeks, but for now click the title to download the b-side, the perhaps bird-hating Alouette, or see them live with our hearty recommendation.

Ghostly International give away Syntaks EP

The label that brought us Matthew Dear, School of the Seven Bells and Dabrye have a couple of things going on – as our brothers at FACT reported, Matthew Dear has a new EP out under his Jabberjaw alias, and Syntaks have an LP out on November 2nd. The Danish pair play delicate, multilayered shoegaze, and while that in itself usually bores the shit out of me, the fact that it is suffused with ghostly pop elements and melodramituc strings makes me fall in love. Download their EP for free here, and buy their album (you still do that, now and again, right?) when it comes out in November.

New LCD song, listen here.

LCD Soundsystem 'Bye Bye Bayou' (DFA Records) by cmjct

First listen of Bye Bye Bayou, the Suicide cover out in early November. Predictably, it's wonderful. According to Murphy's social media, he's in the studio on LCD's third (not counting 45:33) and stuff will be out in March '10.

Cheers Aufgemischt.

Mica Levi, Alexis Taylor, Lucky Dragons play awesome-sounding ICA art-music fest

The ICA are throwing a festival of experimental music and sound art in November. Named after Arthur Russell's 'Calling Out Of Context', the festival happily (in the spirit of Arthur) sees "experimental" as "interesting, beautiful and forward thinking", rather than "joyless, obtuse and pompous". All the artists involved in the 9-day festival are on the flyer below, but we're particularly excited about sets from the wonderful Lucky Dragons on the 14th, Polar Bear's Seb Rochford playing with Pamelia Kurstin on the 17th and Mira Calix on the 20th. There's also a recording studio set up in the gallery, with Alexis Taylor's new project About, blogger-turned-producer Woebot, Alexander Tucker and Mica Levi will all be recording works. Click onto the ICA website for more on all 40 events.

The xx - Free download + 2010 UK tour

Oh what a year The xx are having. They're currently in Europe, touring their phenomenal debut album xx. The tour is "pretty mental" says Young Turks boss Caius. According to Twitter, Michael Stipe was in attendance at their Paris gig. And they were partying in the same club as Prince. That's pretty mental.

We're already booking tickets for their UK tour in March. Dates below.

Can't wait? This awesome remix by Sampha should tide you over...

VIDEO: New Mew is eerie in a good way

I like the latest Mew album, No More Stories. They give good intro, do those Danes. This is the video for new single, 'Repeaterbeater'. It's bite-size cinema for desktop consumption. And a pretty awesome song too.

No Age EP released today

Even though I'm getting bored as shit with all this "grunge pop recorded in a skip" stuff, and No Age pretty much invented it, I still love them forever and am very excited about buying their EP later on today. You're a Target (video'd below) shows them on barrel chested form. Tracklisting and tour dates below, keep em here for a piece on the band.

Tracklisting

1. Losing Feeling
2. Genie
3. Aim at the Airport
4. You're a Target

Kitsune party

Kitsune are throwing a party. See the flyer for deets.

Blondes are good

Check this band out – two teenagers from Brooklyn who make slowly unpeeling torrents of sound that engulf the soul, wrapping it in ice halos and melting it quietly into nothing. Big Shout to Robin who put them on the other night in NY.

Pitchfork surprise no-one.

Pitchfork have dropped the veil on their top twenty albums of the decade – check them out here. Kid A is number one. Only a few of them would even scratch my top twenty of a year, but that's why, you know, we have different websites.
